Throwing Workshop with Steve Brown

Join Steve Brown, Great Pottery Throwdown finalist, for a day of throwing mugs and pulling handles!

Starts 27 Sept
185 British pounds
Cabalva Ceramics, Cabalva House

Description

Saturday 27th September, 10-4pm Through demonstrations, discussion, and practice, Steve Brown will help you progress towards throwing consistent mug forms in stoneware, pulling handles and adding thumb rests. Over the day, Steve will share his knowledge of production throwing and Shino glazing techniques. This course is for those who have some experience of wheel-throwing but would like support to improve their skills and confidence. You will be provided with all of the tools and clay needed for the workshop. At the end of the day you will choose one piece to be glaze fired for later collection or postage (a postage & packaging cost applies). You are also welcome to take home any greenware pieces for firing in your own kilns. If you don't have access to a kiln we can glaze your work for a small additional cost calculated based on the number and weight of pieces. This course includes: - Materials and tools used over the weekend - Firing of one completed piece - Dedicated workspace and wheel - A light lunch and refreshments throughout the day About Your Teacher Steve has been working with clay for seven years, specializing in reduction-fired tableware. Over time, he’s focused on throwing quickly and efficiently, a skill that allows him to sustain his ceramics as a business. His work is distinguished by his carbon trap Shino glaze, complemented by what he calls his Bracken glaze, which fires to a soft sage green that breaks to a warm, rusty orange. Steve studied illustration, completing a degree in Time Based Media at Birmingham University before moving to London, working in film as an animator. He now produces pottery full-time from his Herefordshire home studio and was a finalist on series 8 of 'The Great Pottery Throw Down'. This year, he has started to supply a few galleries and hopes to get more involved with teaching. *Please note this course requires a full cohort of 4 participants to run.*
