Service Description
Experience the Japanese-inspired art of Raku firing with Ceramicist Nancy Frost. Raku is a theatrical and fast method of firing where pots are removed red-hot from the kiln and placed into containers of combustible materials. The reduction atmosphere creates changes in the glazes and clay bodies, producing interesting surface designs and crackling. In this course, you will decorate bisque-fired pieces and watch your work get raku fired before you wash it to reveal your finished pot. It’s dramatic work giving instant and unexpected results! The cost of the course includes bisque ware and materials for glazing several pieces, snacks, and refreshments. Please bring along something for lunch as this is not provided. If you are a potter and would like to bring along your bisque pieces to fire in the raku kilns, please get in touch. “What a lovely time I had at the raku workshop on Saturday, it was a perfect day. The Sunshine, the fire, the smoke, and the wonderful surprises that emerged from the ashes!” - Gilly "Really good fun. Came home with some lovely pieces. Great company and just the right amount of guidance." - Rachel
